Pyramid Lake is the ancestral home of the Lahontan Cutthroat that used to
range up the entire range of the Truckee into LakeTahoe and its tributaries. The
last natural spawning run of these fish was in the 1930s after a diversion dam
was placed on the Truckee for the benefit of agriculture. This fishery has been
preserved by the Paiute Tribe on whose land the Lake lies. Through their
excellent hatchery program this lake remains the last chance for many western
anglers to catch a double-digit trout.
As a side fact, Pyramid Lake is the site of some of the Earth's most spectacular
tufa deposits. The Tufas are composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
The large tufa mounds, reef- and sheet-like tufas formed within Pyramid Lake,
between 26,000 and 13,000 years (yr) ago, when the lake was part of pluvial Lake
Lahontan.

Packages start at $625.00
( Full day of guided fishing, 1-2 people)
Let us Book you at anytime!
Pyramid Lake is arguably the best large trout
fishery in the contiguous USA and those who fished it with me last
season have the pictures to prove it! We will be booking trips in
March, April, May, and October of 2008.
This is how it works. You will be staying in Reno NV. You may
drive, or fly into an international airport. We suggest you book a
Casino or motel for your stay and rent a car. We can do this for
you. It is a forty minute drive to the lake from Reno with no
traffic. We do not provide any meals; this also means no lunches
or drinks for your guide trip. For those of you who have an RV you
can arrange to stay at the lake. We will help you out with contact
numbers if you wish. There is also a small lodge at the lake
called Crosby’s. Again, we can book you there. They have a limited
restaurant and bar with clean, older rooms. You will need to
purchase a Pyramid Lake Tribal fishing license. They are
$9.00/day. We will provide ALL your fishing gear except clothing.
We suggest you bring waders or foul weather gear for sure in the
event the weather is wet or cold. Please do not wear black soled
shoes or studded steel toed wading boots. We will be fishing from
a state of the art 24 foot flats boat. This is not a trip for
beginning fly fishers.
The cost is $625.00 per day for one or two persons. We can
accommodate three and the additional cost is $100.00/day. You may
book as many days as you wish, and we will do single day trips. We
have paid a substantial amount of money to the Piute Tribe for the
rights to guide the lake. This is why the cost per day is higher
than my normal fee.
In our opinion this may be the best opportunity you have in the
USA to catch a trout over thirty inches. Last year we logged
twelve. We also netted 274 fish over 25 inches in forty days of
guiding. Pictures of fish less than 24 inches will not be found!
It is awesome for big fish here.
The dates we will be booking start March 3, 2008 and will end May
10, 2008 for the spring trip. We will begin a fall session on
10-3-08 with the last trip on 10-18-08. Open dates as of March
11th are: March 23, 24, 25, 26. April 4, 5, 6 & 8, May 7 thru May
10. All but Oct. 3, 4, 5, 11 & 12 are open for the fall right now. |
