TRINITY RIVER REPORT 12/12/24
Jonathan Hubbard: The Trinity is fishing well after the big rain we had a few weeks ago. Beautiful weather over the last week or so, and with the Klamath still reorienting after dam removals, there are plenty of anglers trying their luck. There are fish spread all over from Lewiston down to Pigeon Point. Expect more traffic the farther up river you go, so if you want to find some solitude and a fresh up runner fish Junction City and below. If you don't mind fishing with a little company, then check out Douglas City and above.
There's more rain in the forecast this week with 2 to 3 inches forecast and even some snow in the mix, so be prepared for the river to come up. You might still be able to fish up higher in the system, but bring your warmest layers and a good rain coat! Next week should be great after this rain shuffles the fish around a little and maybe pushes some early winter fish up.
Youll find fish under the indicator on stoneflies, traditional steelhead nymphs and smaller attractors. If she's clear, go smaller, but if she colors up with the new rain, size up your presentations. Fish are still responding well to the swing on type 3 and 6 sink tips depending on the run depth. As the water temps cool, slow and low will pick up fish on the swing all winter. Fish Hoh Bo Speys and Silver Hiltons in clear water and size up to larger patterns if the flows Come up.
530 Outfitters: We’ve had some amazing days on the Trinity, and we’re expecting more to come. From turbo-charged, legit half-pounders (16”-18”) cartwheeling and pulling drag, to some large adults (over 22” and up to 30”+) kicking ass and taking names as they throw our rigs back at us on a tail-walking run downriver, the Trinity has been full of laughs and heartbreaks. But that’s steelhead fishing, and we’re in!
TRINITY RIVER REPORT 11/12/24
530 Outfitters: The Trinity River has been fishing great the past couple of years and we are expecting her to do the same for the 2024/25 season that’s starting now and will fish well into early Spring 2025. Late summer and early fall swing fishing can be fun with less crowds. With so many other options to fish this time of the year, most of the crowds are simply doing other things. This can really work to our advantage. There are also some opportunities to fish high in the system for half pounders and adult fish. With so many eyes on the systems, we encourage you to give us a call to talk about all the options.
