Yuba River
Flows: 1000 cfs
Temperature: 52-58 f
Rating: Good
Flies: eggs, tan caddis, pheasant tails, sculpins, leeches, caddis and baetis dries
The Yuba river has been pretty consistent all summer and continues to be good this fall. There are some nice fish around and nymph anglers are finding trout below the indicator on egg patterns, caddis flies and mayflies. Salmon are slowly making their way into the system and the trout are staging in the typical shallow, faster water they like when the kings are around.
The dry fly bite has been decent some days on small baetis emergers and tan caddis. Throwing size 18-20 dries on 5x has taken some really nice fish, but you usually only get one or two passes before the fish spook.
The swing isn’t bad on small egg sucking leeches, tan and olive sculpins and soft hackles. The Yuba is low and clear so be stealthy in all your approaches to hook up!
