American River

Flows: 1,740 cfs
Temperature: 62-64 f
Rating: Fair to good
Flies: Tan/olive caddis, eggs, mayfly attractors, prince nymphs, sculpins,  caddis dries in evening

I’ve fished the american a couple of times this past week and the fishing has been fair to good. Some days better than others, but there are some good sized fresh chrome hatchery fish lurking around and they’re fired up, so let em run!

Nymphing is going to produce the most fish, but if the swing is your thing you can hook them on sculpins and olive/tan egg sucking leeches, as well as soft hackles.  Nymphing anglers should look for drop offs and cooler more oxygenated water. The fish will be sitting on the drops waiting for the goods.

The warm weather has been keeping the bigger fall push of fish out, but when things cool down a bit it should get even better out there. You dont know unless you go!
