Flows are sitting around 1000cfs with a nice tint to the river – definitely not gin clear by any means.
The River is in great shape and fishing well. Salmon numbers continue to increase from what I have seen. There are salmon on active reds throughout the river from the bridge down to Daguerre so fish are eating eggs throughout the system. Hatches have been very dependent on the weather and day. Sunny and warmer days will see some caddis and bigger mayflies, colder days are sparse hatches but during the warmest part of the day there will be baetis and tricos. Dry fly fishing has been pretty sparse and concentrated in the flats and fish are VERY picky and most of these fish are on the smaller side.
Nymphing with egg patterns, olive caddis, rubber legs, and smaller mayfly nymphs has been the best. A key to success is adjusting weight and depth as you move from run to run. Lighter weigh through reds on a shallower drop has been key to catching fish. One set up will not work in every run all day on the Lower Yuba right now.
