Feather River:

Good to Great

2500cfs low flow 6-8ft of viz

11,000cfs High Flow 8-10ft of viz

The fishing on the Feather has been good to great for the past few weeks. The more stable the weather is, the better the fishing is. We have seen a few slower days on colder mornings/colder days when bugs take a bit longer to wake up, unfortunately, but I don’t blame um. However, with the next 2 weeks weather forecast looking to be in the low 80s, its going to be one hellava ride, especially with the spring run steelhead showing up daily.

We are seeing the start of the sucker spawn in the Low Flow which does help on those “colder” days as that’s a massive meal for our Central Valley Spring Run Salty Trouts. When they eat that sucker spawn fly, theres no denying what they ate, it becomes shwack time on the sucker spawn.

Other flies include worms, caddis, beatis and general attractor patterns.

The High Flow is super pushy at 11k, however, if you can find those areas of slower current and on the big long flats, you will also find super grabby fish.

Theres not as many suckers spawning in the high flow due to the higher water, but go big or go home. Big attractors, Big caddis, Big worms.

Please be aware that flows have been changing daily, sometimes without warning. 2500cfs in the low flow is too high to wade safely and if you’ve never floated the high flow at 11k, that current is rippin. So be careful if you venture out on the Feather.

With only 25ft remaining till full capacity, it wont be long till flows start to ramp up again, if you are looking to get out, get out now while the getting is good and flows allow us to fish.
