Lake Almanor Fly Fishing Report

Fishing on Lake Almanor has been excellent, with anglers averaging 12–20 fish per day in the 18–25” class. Most of the action is coming on Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and occasional quality Smallmouth bass.

Techniques & Gear:

  • Early morning: Floating pond smelt patterns on the surface

  • Mid-morning: Switch to intermediate lines with sinking pond smelt patterns (#6–8)

  • Rest of the day: Balanced leeches (#8–10) and midges (#10–12) under an indicator

All three techniques have been productive, giving anglers options throughout the day depending on light and activity.

Lake Almanor continues to provide consistent, fun fishing for a variety of species—perfect for those looking to land trophy trout or enjoy a day on the water with multiple fly strategies.

Tight lines!
