Fishing Reports

**Lower Yuba River (Hwy 20 to the Mouth)**
The fishing here has been ranging from good to great for trout, whether you’re fishing on top, under a bobber, or on the swing. The fish are actively feeding, making it a perfect time to enjoy some epic fishing. If you’ve never experienced the thrill of throwing hoppers all day or swinging flies while wet wading, I highly recommend booking a trip on the renowned Yuba River to chase those elusive native rainbow trout with us.

As mentioned, we are no longer targeting shad this season, as it was a very short one. While shad are typically on a three-year cycle of good years followed by a slower one, this year was definitely slower. We’ve now turned our efforts to swinging for trout and, yes, even stripers on bigger spey rods! Several clients requested this, and I’m excited to now offer this technique. We’re also targeting stripers on the fly with single handed rods, sinking lines and clousers in gin clear water, oh boy what a sight. Fishing started strong as the shad slowed down, then we had a small push of fresh shad, which was great for shad fishing for about two weeks but not ideal for the bigger stripers. Now that the shad are finally moving out, striper fishing has picked back up. So, whether you’re into throwing hoppers for trout, swinging for trout, stripping for stripers, or swinging spey rods for stripers – get ready for some exciting action!
