Lower Yuba River Fishing Report:
Fishing on the Lower Yuba has been great this past July and now coming into August. The fish have been very grabby, and we’re finding most of them tucked into the faster riffles, with some good opportunities in the occasional deeper pools.
Nymphing continues to be the most consistent way to put fish in the net. Rubberlegs paired with mayfly perdigons have been producing really well, along with caddis patterns and soft hackles. Don’t be afraid to fish the quicker water, some of the better fish have been sitting right where you’d expect them to have to work the hardest.
Dry fly fishing has been a little more hit or miss this summer. We’ve had some opportunities, but the hopper fishing hasn’t really kicked into full gear yet. Whether we’re simply running a little behind this year or it’s going to be a slim hopper season remains to be seen.
Either way, the Yuba is fishing well and the trout are healthy, strong, and willing to eat. August is off to a great start!
