Lower Sacramento River Striper Report – Capt. Hogan Brown of 530 Outfitters
Migratory Striper season is wrapping up and what we commonly refer to as resident season is getting going. The end of May through September is PRIME river striper season and this season is shaping up to be a GREAT one. Flows are stabilizing and we are not expecting a huge fluctuation with spring run off. The hot/cool weather pattern we have been having is keeping water temps cool and are on pace to warm right no time.
The migratory run came up high in the system so there will be plenty of migratory fish that spend the summer in the river and mix with our resident population. There will be a river salmon season opening on July 16 and believe it or not this is GREAT for striper fishing – a good salmon run and salmon boats out on the river push the fish in very predictable ways making it easier to pattern fish.
With only a few seasoned guides that spend their summer chasing stripers on the local rivers it if you wish to get out it is important to book early as they will ALL book up.
