Fishing Reports

It is prime summer resident striper season on our valley rivers and the Lower Sac from North of Red Bluff to Colusa is fishing well. Certain areas fish better than others and tribs can create varying degrees of clarity as they blow out due to high mountain thunderstorms that muddy up the rivers from fire burn areas in certain stretches. Heavy sinking lines and big rattle clousers are the ticket this time of year as sections of the river have varying degrees of “color” – Color is good though as fish make more mistakes in off color water.

Fish seem to be concentrated in smaller holding zones and not the big flats of mid to late summer. Most fish are in the 3-8lb range but double digits fish are starting to show and the true trophies are appearing as the shad run thins out or moves on.

Water temps range between 58-65 in certain stretches making fishing mid morning on a bit better but we have been finding feeding fish throughout the day while fishing from around 7am to 3pm.

Fishing will only continue to improve over the end of June and in to July/August. Look for topwater fishing, sight fishing in the shallows, and more to get going over the next few weeks.
