Sacramento River Striped Bass Report – July 25, 2026

Overview:
Good summer striper fishing on the Sacramento River out of Butte City. We were on the water from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM with guide Hogan Brown. Steady action throughout the day on streamers.
The Crew:
Fishermen: Karsten Murphy, Dennis Estrada
Guide:  Hogan Brown
Techniques Used:
We were streamer fishing from the boat, targeting current seams, troughs, and structure.

Gear Used:
Rods: 9-weight fly rods with matching reels
Lines: Fast sinking integrated shooting heads – key to getting down in the current
Flies: Adachi style Clouser Minnows
Hot Colors: Captain Costello’s Baitfish and Blue over Chartreuse over White were the producers

Conditions:
Rated as Good. Fish were active and willing to chase.

Results:
Numbers were solid. Karsten had the hot stick of the day.  Most Striped Bass were schoolie size in the 1 to 2-pound class – perfect fly rod fun with a lot of grabs. Bonus catch of one Smallmouth Bass mixed in.
Overall a productive day on the Sac with consistent action on the fly.

Final Thoughts from Dennis:
We went out trying to target large, resident stripers.  Just about every hole that we fished produced schoolie sized fish with many chasing our flies all the way to the boat.  That’s fishing.
